Lake Bunyoni

Lake Bunyoni was the first campsite that we arrived at on time! i.e. in time for my afternoon cup of tea. First we had to get the bushes on the shock absorbers fixed and a puncture in two wheels in kabale.

We took a speed boat the 20mins to Byoona Amagara (http://lakebunyonyi.net/index2.php?page=1) and once there Chrissie very kindly decided to treat us to three nights in the Geo-dome and one night in the log cabin. Byoona Amagara was exceptional: The service, the staff, the views, the privacy and the facilities.

We had our very own garden, shower and toilet and each was separate so we really don’t see anyone else except when we went to the bar to get a beer. The bird life was fantastic, at least 20 species in each little garden. We spent a lot of time relaxing, reading, doing some creative writing, Chrissie painting and I bird watching.

On one of the days we went for a drive to see how high we could climb up on the western side of the lake for good views and later to the eastern side where the views were exceptional. Note Punishment Island (the tiny, tiny island with what looks like a stick growing on it), this used to be where they would put the women who had gotten pregnant out of wed lock to die.

Here we hooked up with Christoph and Frederik, who we had met previously in Bwindi, and they decided to continue on with us to lake Mburu and Kampala and Jinja.
